Mobile projecting
Seems like the mobile phone is really becoming a more and more integrated device. Ok, that's nothing new. They can already play music and what not... so it was just a matter of time till someone would finally fit a projector into the phone.
And it was 3M, yes the company of post-its, reflector stripes and glue and all that stuff, who finally brought a device to the market. And... now all mobile device enthusiasts cheer up... first products are to be expected in this year's spring.
But about the product itself: It has the size of an ear-plug, delivers VGA 640 x 480 pixels to a 40" area and will not consume much power since it uses LED technology. The engine uses 3M's homebrewn Liquid Crystal on Silicon imager in conjunction with proprietary optics technology.
Just think of what could all be possible. TV in top quality everywhere you go... yeah.. that sounds great. No honestly. You could have head-up navigation in virtually any car, use it for new kinds of games (would something like Quasar be possible?) or as screens for tiny but fully capable mobile work stations... but I guess TV might be the biggest driver (a pity).
